In the heart of the famous Crete Senesi, surrounded by the most evocative views of the Tuscan countryside, stands Castello di Leonina, a thirteenth-century fortress that was formerly the residence of the Chigi family and the country residence of future Pope Alexander VII, and is today an exclusive 4-star hotel just outside Siena.
Immersed in a wonderful panorama between Siena and Asciano, Castello di Leonina came back to life in 2003, after long and accurate renovation works. The facility aims to offer moments of peace and quiet, in harmony with history and the surrounding nature.
This Relais, which is eprfect for your luxury holidays in Tuscany, has 20 rooms, including deluxe and comfort suites, the La Terrazza di Leonina restaurant, a Wellness Point, an outdoor swimming pool with salty water and a Meeting Room for business events and conferences. It is a special place, away from chaos and the frenetic pace of everyday life, ideal to spend unique and precious moments.

This Castle in Tuscany has unique and romantic spaces, including an internal courtyard with gazebo for summer ceremonies and splendid frescoed rooms for receptions in the coldest months of the year.

The rooms
In the internal courtyard of the castle you can welcome your guests in the shade of the large gazebo, which can hold up to 200 people. The restaurant party hall, ideal for indoor events, has up to 100 seats. On reservation, the newlyweds and their guests can stay the night in our luxurious rooms after the ceremony.

The ceremony
In the immediate vicinity of the castle there are some beautiful Romanesque churches, including the Church of the Sacred Heart (in Arbia), the church of Sant’Isidoro (in Siena), the Sanctuary of San Paolo a Presciano (in Taverne) or the Abbey of Monteoliveto Maggiore.

The Turkish Bath is ideal for gentle sweating and lots of benefits for your skin, favored by a pleasant temperature of 45 degrees in a particularly humid environment, while the Color-Aromatic Shower provides beneficial effects with its nebulizing water jets and fragrant and volatile essences.

Castello Leonina Relais lies in the midst of the famous “crete”, one of the most striking landscapes in Tuscany. A 13th century fortress, once the home of the Chigi family it was used as a summer residence by Cardinal Fabio Chigi who later became Pope Alexander VII. Situated between Siena and Asciano, thanks to careful restoration lasting a number of years, in 2003 Castello Leonina was returned to its previous splendour. Since then it has offered its guests the opportunity to enjoy peace and tranquillity in an historic setting of great beauty.

The hotel is elegant yet warm and friendly: only 21 rooms, furnished tastefully, each with fantastic views of the rolling hills and the famous “crete” in the Siennese countryside. In spite of its ancient origins and atmosphere of times gone by, the castle of Leonina is exceptionally comfortable and the staff are well equipped to deal with the variety of requests and needs of its clients. The hotel’s principal philosophy is that of making clients feel perfectly “at home”.

The hotel’s restaurant “Il Balcone di Leonina” is renowned for its high quality cuisine prepared following ancient traditional Tuscan recipes. Exquisite meals that preserve the gastronomic legacy of Tuscany, all, as one would expect, accompanied by the finest wines of the region.

The quality of our service and particular attention to detail, make any stay an enriching and prestigious experience. We offer a comfortable environment plus that little extra something to make our guests feel completely at home. All hotel guests may use the swimming pool; dive in beneath azure skies and relax and enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside and the famous “crete”, geological formations typical of this part of the province of Siena.

In the hotel’s wellness centre, not only can guests make use of the Turkish Bath and the Aromatherapy Shower, they may also enjoy various types of massage: Shiatsu, Antistress, Ayurvedic, Colour therapy. Massages are carried out by specialists and last between 30 and 60 minutes. Relax at a pleasant temperature of 45° and enjoy this healthy way to completely detoxify your body and improve skin texture.

The meeting room is suitable for conventions of between 10 and 100 participants. Tables can be arranged in horseshoe shape (30 pax) or in classic theatre style (100 pax). The hotel can accommodate business lunches (90 pax) and seminars and meetings of one or more days.
